About UsJoe and I were actively raising and breeding Arabian horses when we got involved with the dogs. Joe enjoyed hunting with his buddies, but having to take turns using his friends dogs was not his idea of a good day!! One day, after returning home from hunting, Joe opened up the Western Outdoor News. He called a phone number where they were advertising German Shorthaired Pointers for sale. He just wanted a hunting dog. He told them that Nicole would pick up the last pup they had the following day. That was the beginning of Cypress Creek Kennels. Joe wasn't interested in pedigree, he just wanted a hunting dog. We called him Pretty Boy, which lasted awhile until we got into the field trials, and a big masculine man can't be calling a dog Pretty Boy. So, the name was changed to Pity Boy!! Since we really did not know how to train a bird dog, we decided we might need some help. We picked a trainer and things were going very well. Then the trainer says, "How about going to a field trial? I think this pup has what it takes". We decided to give it a try. Pity Boy won the puppy stake and the next time out, the Derby Stake. We were hooked! We started with a Ford Bronco and over the years have gone to a two horse trailer and a pickup, a motorhome and now a Freightliner with a 36’ trailer. The dogs were the cheap part of this new venture! We knew that we had to breed quality, if we wanted to produce quality. We looked and found Mollie, a DC Stradivarius Baroque daughter. Mollie was out of a littermate to Pity Boy’s mother. After they had both completed their field championships, we bred them. That breeding produced NAFC FC AFC Shackle Foot Slim. Our first Regional was in the White Mountains, we didn't have gaited horses but we watched, what we could, and decided that we wanted pups out of a few exception females. Surprisingly, we were approached by both John Merrel and Don Fidler to breed a couple of their good females to Pity Boy. We kept puppies from both of those breeding and that was the foundation for Cypress Creek Kennels.
